Dr. Michel Gelobter

Michel Gelobter is the founder of Cooler, Inc., a for-profit, social venture that provides easy ways for consumers and retailers to address the climate change impact of goods and services.
Dr. Gelobter brings over 25 years of experience working on climate change, and most recently led Redefining Progress in designing the world’s most aggressive climate legislation (signed into California law in August of 2006 by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger).
Michel has been a Congressional Black Caucus Fellow with the U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee; Director of Environmental Quality for the City of New York, an Assistant Commissioner for its Department of Environmental Protection (with over 6,000 employees and a combined budget of over $2 billion/year) and founder and director of the Environmental Policy Program at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
He earned his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. at U.C. Berkeley, and is an alumnus of Deep Springs College. Dr. Gelobter presently serves on the Advisory Board of Vice-President Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection and the Boards of the Natural Resources Defense Council and Ceres among others.
